pick me

you had a choice to make.

"pick me," said the one that was no good. "i smell intoxicating. here, feel my biceps flexing for you. and i have money to make up for my lack of brainpower--my daddy's money, but whatever. take off your shirt; you're hot."

"pick me," said the one that was too good. "i find you intoxicating. here, feel my heart beating faster for you. i, too, have money. it's mine, and therefore yours. but there's nothing to compensate for in either me or you. take off your makeup; you're perfect."

you had a choice to make.

"i choose you," you said to the one who was uninvolved. the one who was not an option, who was not yours to pick.

"who, him?" the too-good and no-good ones exclaimed. "the one who didn't do anything?"

"who, me?" mused the uninvolved one. "the only one who didn't chase you?"

you nodded with unfounded confidence. "you seem safe. i think i'll be safe with you."

everyone else rolled their eyes.

"you fool."

you had a choice to make.

you couldn't bring yourself to choose, so you decided to cheat the odds by stringing them all along. you had no right, and inevitably those involved realized this. they moved on, learned better, achieved better.

you had a choice to make, and you screwed up beyond repair.

you were left behind. you are alone. and you deserve this.
